The Gratitude Podcast:“Appreciation Week”

Original Post Date- 9/14/2018

Hey gratitude seeker, have you ever been a part of an appreciation week? This is the last day of an appreciation week that my girlfriend is enjoying at work, and she says she was almost crying after seeing what her colleagues said about her. I think it’s a brilliant idea, and in this episode, we will explore what it is and what are some creative ways of doing this in our life as well.

Let’s start by taking a deep breath in and a deep breath out.

An appreciation week, I think it is such a wonderful concept and I think it can be so powerful in bringing people together. And in connecting them. So, what is it exactly? In this week people are invited to do random acts of  appreciation. For instance, a few days ago she [girlfriend] received a Kinder Bueno with a cute little appreciation message. She did this as well today, she knew of a colleague of hers that has back problems and she talked with the  people on our team that are specialized in aromatherapy and in physiotherapy and she found out the oils that would help her colleague with her back pain. We already had an unopened jar of coconut oil and we mixed it with copaiba and panaway, and also valor creating a blend as recommended by the experts. We’re really curious to see how it goes and I’ll keep you posted about this, also.

As I was saying in the beginning, she [girlfriend] received about 8 post-it notes with what her colleagues appreciate about her, and its overwhelmingly positive and as you can imagine it feels amazing to know that you’re appreciated and that your colleagues have positive things to say about you. And she really didn’t expect some of the things that were written down to be that way and for people to feel that way about her. Another interesting thing that happened was the fact that the team leader and also the people from HR that initiated this appreciation week will receive something extra because of the fact that the people involved in the appreciation week felt so grateful for them putting together this appreciation week. And it’s a really wonderful circle that began with gratitude and continues on with gratitude. They gave gratitude for people and they’re receiving gestures of gratitude as well.

So how can you apply this in your life too? Firstly, if you’re an employee you can ask your HR department and maybe they’re open to doing something similar. Or, if you’re a leader or you have your own business it’s a great way of bringing people together and nurturing the relationships between them. You can imagine the fact that you’ll be working much better with someone that you know appreciates you.

I believe this can be used in a family too, every once in a while, you can set up an appreciation week, and you can be very creative about it. Also, if you’re a teacher, for instance, you can do this with your students and help them like each other more instead of maybe bullying or saying nasty things as they sometimes do. It’s up to you how you organize it and the sky is the limit, you can do many, many interesting things. But I really hope that I planted a seed of an idea that will bring gratitude and happiness in your home, in your class, or at work. And that’s it for today.

You can get two of the oils that we used for the blend if you purchase the premium starter kit. One of them is copaiba, known to support the body’s natural response to irritation or inflammation, and it also supports digestion. Emotionally it helps to keep us in the now, in the present moment. And panaway which is a combination between peppermint, wintergreen, clove and helichrysum. And it’s an oil highly recommended for people suffering from chronic pain, inflammatory conditions, muscle aches and weakness, poor circulation, menstrual cramps, migraines, headaches, arthritis, low energy, anxiety, stress, depression, indigestion, and a weak immune system. Of course, you can buy them separately. And oils don’t expire.

That’s it from me for today, I wish you an amazing day full of gratitude and joy. This has been Georgian Benta, don’t forget to keep seeking and spreading gratitude.
